Our History

For more than 55 years, UCEL has provided safe, innovative solutions on hundreds of residential and ICI projects across Canada

UCEL Inc., formerly Urban Construction Equipment Limited, was founded in 1963 by Frank Csaszar a Hungarian immigrant to Canada. UCEL is Canada’s first construction hoist company. Prior to this Frank operated in Canada under Cazar Equipment Company and other firms in masonry, derrick cranes and material hoisting industries starting as early as 1952.

THE EARLY DAYS

Here is a photo of one of the Csaszar family’s machines on the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce Tower, Montreal in 1961 – which at the time was the tallest building in the British Empire. UCEL Inc. has been providing vertical man and material moving equipment ever since

HISTORY

Since inception UCEL has been Toronto’s choice for vertical access equipment to perform on demanding jobsites such as Ice Condos, Harbour Plaza and 10 York. UCEL has been relied on to provide equipment on 11 of Toronto’s 20 tallest buildings.
